Expats Have Pole Position
Poland ranks as one of the cheapest countries to live for expats, whereas Norway is the most expensive.
In a recent survey comparing the cost of living for expatriates, conducted by London-based human-resources company ECA International, Poland ranked among the least expensive. Poland finished 24th out of 32 countries in a position unchanged from last year.
The survey published twice yearly compares the prices of goods and services including food, alcohol, tobacco, clothing, electrical goods, motoring and restaurant meals.
Norway topped the survey as the most expensive country for expats to live in, closely followed by Denmark in second place while Japan rounded out the top three.
Among the notable movers was South Korea, which moved four places from 10th last year, to sixth this year. The change was put down to the appreciation of the Korean won.
The Philippines was the cheapest country for expatriates. Prices of goods and services there were a third of those in Japan.
