Warsaw Estimates Wartime Losses

The Warsaw municipality has published a report that estimates the war-time losses of the Polish capital at 54 billion dollars. According to mayor of Warsaw and presidential candidate Lech Kaczynski, the report “The Losses of Warsaw 1939-1945” is not an attack but a means of defence against German compensation claims.

According to professor Wladyslaw Bartoszewski, historian and Polish ex-foreign minister, the report gives only a general idea of the extent of the losses as Warsaw was the only city in Europe which lost during World War 2 half of its population and 80% of infrastructure.
