An unusual attempt at smuggling was uncovered at the Polish-Ukrainian boarder crossing in Dorohusk. The truck driver claimed that he had a load of quartz, yet the custom official decided to seek advice of specialists from the Geological Museum in Warsaw.

As it turned out the truck was loaded with over half a ton of metallic meteorites. The specialist suggested that they come from Siberia and they fell from the sky in 1947.

They were most probably stolen from a museum because they all bear special catalogue marks.

The other eight tons of stones constituted a very interesting collection. It is difficult to evaluate the horde but specialists suggest that the total value may well exceed one million US dollars.
