Polish President Speaks Up!

Plans for a trans-Baltic oil pipeline from russia to Germany have been in the works for quite a while. Since the pipeline would create an pathway that excluded Poland from the Oil loop, many politicians here have been concerned about the long term stability of Poland's economy.

Finally, the Polish President has spoken out against the project in a formal and very public way. He questioned Germany's involvement in the project on the grounds that the EU had not approved the scheme and that it would be detramental to Poland, a new and developing EU member state.

In this uncertain world, where oil prices have ballooned and reserves are constantly questioned, Germany has a right to look out for its own interests, but in no uncertain terms does this move put Poland in an awkward position. Will the Polish President be able to ride recent swell of Polish influence and change things? Only time will tell the tale.
