Summertime always brings plenty of action to the capital city, and this month is no exception. Alongside the usual weekly concerts and events, you’ll have a chance to calm that classical itch during the International Music Festival “Chopin and His Europe” organized by The National Institute of Fryderyk Chopin and The National Philharmonic in Warsaw. Running until the 10th of September, it’s a perfect opportunity to sit back and revel in the musical genius of Poland’s most famous composer.

Chopin is known for his plethora of piano compositions, in addition to his poetic miniatures, dances and fantasias. He was a pioneer in this area, exhibiting the full potential of this instrument and its rich melody. Suddenly, music became real and sensual, no longer an abstract compilation of notes. His individual style, apparent from the first few sounds and chords, traps any listener in a land of harmonies and imagination.

The goal of this festival project - patroned by the Minister of Culture, Waldemar Dabrowski, and the President of Warsaw, Lech Kaczynski – is to promote Polish musical culture by gathering together some of Europe’s top artistic talent. Of course music is the key here, and we are presented with compositions which influenced Chopin in his work, as well as, other beauty inspired by his rich melodies – encompassing all facets of art, from literature to theatre.

What can we expect? To start, The 18th Century Orchestra under the direction of Frans Bruggen and exceptional pianists, such as Nikolai Lugansky, Krzysztof Jablonski, Nelson Goerner, Dan Thai Son, Fou Ts’ong, Janusz Olejniczak – to name a few. Authentic pianos will help set the mood: an 1848 Erard and an 1848 Pleyel.

All concerts start at 7:30 PM and will be held at The National Philharmonic in Warsaw. Tickets available at the ticket office and more information at: Warsaw Philharmonic.
