After having been the target of political manipulation and fear mongering for as long as they have existed, Polish Migrant workers are finally getting some help from concerned citizens in Great Britain. The Transport and General Workers Union has brought to the surface, a number of concerns over the welfare of Polish migrants working for the CSA service group.
It seems that many Poles were lured to Britain with promises of work, housing, and a new life, but were eventually left with no work, no home, and no language skills. While the CSA people have denied any wrongdoing and have promised that all contracts and documents were translated into Polish, the TGWU and the Poles themselves assert that there was a great deal of confusion and misinformation. The fact that the workers knew very little english, made them an easy target and it seems that CSA used that weakness to its advantage, even if they did it 'legally.'
Although there has been no formal resolution to the problem, it is refreshing to see that someone is making a stand on behalf of Polish workers, in the wake of comments made throughout the European Union that Polish workers exist only to steal the jobs of natives. |
