Budget airline Ryanair has announced that it is launching five new routes to eastern Europe. Ryanair said it would begin daily flights between London Stansted and the Polish cities of Gdansk, Bydgoszcz, Szczecin and Rzeszow at the end of October.

It also announced the launch at the same time of a twice-daily service to the Slovakian capital Bratislava.

The Dublin-based airline highlighted the proximity of Bratislava to Vienna, which it claimed would allow travellers to visit the Austrian capital at budget airline prices for the first time.

Deputy chief executive Michael Cawley said: “British tourists can now discover Poland and decide for themselves what Gdansk, Bydgoszcz, Szczecin and Rzeszow have to offer without paying the high fares of LOT and easyJet.”

Ryanair now runs 229 routes between 20 countries and has 12 European bases and 2,600 staff.
