Kwasniewski - Next UN Secretary General?
President Aleksander Kwasniewksi is thinking of running for UN Secretary General. Polish opposition parties are ready to support him in this.
“If the UN is going to change into a more active institution, then it would be quite a challenge and an interesting experience for me,” states the President.
The elections are scheduled for 2006. It seems promising that the President’s candidature would be supported by the United States. However, the Polish government would also have to accept it, and the decision is likely to be made by the new, most probably right wing cabinet. There is no agreement in this matter between the potential coalition parties. For example, the Law and Justice platform claims that, “We would not promote a communist.”
