The new centre party that was launched this weekend will be called the Democratic Party (Partia Demokratyczna).
Its founders, who came up with the idea two weeks ago, are: Freedom Union (UW) leader Wladyslaw Frasyniuk, deputy Prime Minister Jerzy Hausner, the first non-communist Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki and Center Party (PC) leader Janusz Steinhoff. "We are here because we are worried about the state of our country and its politics, about the race to become more and more radical, Bolshevik slogans and ideas to create special courts and commissions," said Dariusz Rosati, although he did not enroll to the new formation as he said he had obligations towards Polish Social Democracy (SdPl). It is said the new party may take away 3-4% of votes earlier earmarked for the Civic Platform (PO) and Democratic Left Alliance (SLD).
