Almost two-thirds of Poles -- 64 percent -- support ratifying the European Union constitution, according to a poll published on Saturday.
According to the survey of 1,070 people by the CBOS institute seven percent of Poles are against the constitution, while 29 percent do not have an opinion.
Poland is one of 10 of the EU's 25 members which is expected to hold a referendum before ratifying the constitution. Spain was the first last weekend to hold such a popular consultation.
Poland's ruling leftwing coalition, which is in favour of the EU constitution, wants a referendum to be held on it at the same time as presidential elections, due in October.
But the centre-right opposition -- which is against the constitution -- wants the plebiscite to be held next year, to allow Poland to see what results arise from referenda in other EU member states, including euro-sceptic countries such as Britain.
Some 66 percent of those questioned from February 4-7 said they intended to vote in a referendum. Under the Polish constitution turnout must exceed 50 percent in order for the vote to be declared valid.
Poland is one of the newest EU member states, having joined last May.
