A major investment project at the heart of Warsaw finally looks set to kick back into gear after a bungle by outgoing officials from the local government. The lavish 'Golden Terraces' Project, which is set to include offices, cinemas and a swish mall that will be topped by a dazzling glass-domed structure, has already cost in excess of 150 million Euros.
The project was declared illegal at a comically late stage in development, due to local officials' failure to notify the Ecological Group Friendly City. However, the impartiality of Friendly City had already been thrown into question after it emerged that it had previously accepted a 200 million zl 'donation' from another investment group behind the shopping mall Arkadia. In the wake of this generous present, Friendly City swiftly decided to live up to their name and reverse their afore-held complaint against the Arkadia Group.
Now, after several months in the doldrums, the County Construction Supervision Authority has approved a programme to maintain full building momentum on the Golden Terraces Project. The opening of the complex may still not meet the scheduled deadline of this Autumn, but the future of the project looks on safer ground.
The finished article should make for a striking prospect. The cherry on the cake will be the sweeping glass dome that is designed to resemble a spiderweb of glass triangles, like 'a piece of fabric draped over seven balls, seemingly in motion.'
