Old Man Winter may be in frosty spirits but this certainly doesn't mean that there's nothing to warm the souls over the coming months. There's a great mix of events in store, from Old World class to contemporary corkers from Polish and International stars.
Of the former, it's worth singling out the 9th Ludwig Van Beethoven Festival (March 15th-24th). One of Europe's most prestigious classical music festivals, this Ludwig extravaganza recently upped sticks from Cracow and switched to the capital - a great coup for the city. The event is the pet-project of star Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki, and music lovers and orchestras from across the world will be descending on Warsaw this March. Check the website of the Grand Theatre for more info (www.teatrwielki.pl).
Also for classical aficionados, March 1st sees the 195th anniversary of the birth of one of Poland's great romantic heroes, Frederic Chopin. Look out for special anniversary concerts at the Ostrogski Palace and the Warsaw Philharmonic.
For 21st century glitz, US Hip Hop Legends The Beatnuts will be hitting town (February 11th), hot on the heels of the Black Eyed Peas (28th January). Late March sees an Acid Jazz explosion with seasoned hipsters US3 and The Brand New Heavies both playing in the capital. For fans of Caribbean grooves, there's a major reggae event scheduled for Proxima on March 13th.
If you fancy something a bit more gritty, why not sample the dark delights of the Polish Metal scene. Cross over to the Dark Side with home-grown bruisers Behemoth, or check out the trio of US Punk bands that are touching down in Warsaw on March 20th. Enjoy!
