Foreign Minister Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz officially agreed yesterday to become a candidate for the seat of the Sejm Speaker, following the prose cutor's verdict which proved Józef Oleksy's cooperation with the secret services in the early 1980s.
Parties that have already announced their s upport for Cimoszewicz include the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), Polish Social Democracy (SDPL), the Labour Union and the PLD party, led by Roman Jagielinski. Cimoszewicz met with President Aleksander Kwasniewski yesterday to discuss a list of debates to be conducted while holding the office. The SLD wants the Sejm to vote tomorrow on the decision to dismiss Oleksy and call Cimoszewicz to the role. The seat of the Foreign Minister is to be taken by Adam Rotfeld, the current Deputy Foreign Minister.
