The Exhibition "Warsaw-Moscow. Moscow-Warsaw. 1900-2000" opened on Wednesday night at the National Gallery of Contemporary Art Zaheta in the Polish capital.
Head of the Russian Federal Agency on culture and cinematography Mikhail Shvydkoy and Poland's Minister of Culture Waldemar Dabrowski opened the exhibition.
The Russian part is represented by 400 works from various Russian state museums and private collections. Almost half of them are from the Tretyakov Gallery - the largest repository of Russian art.
Poland's President Aleksander Kwasniewski sent a welcome message to organizers and participants of the exhibition at Zahenta gallery.
"It is an unprecedented event. Many of the works are exhibited in Warsaw for the first time," the message says.
The Polish President expressed hope that when the Polish part of the exhibition "Warsaw-Moscow. Moscow-Warsaw. 1900-2000" opens in Moscow in March 2005, Russian visitors will show as much interest and excitement toward polish art, as the Poles did toward Russian art.
The exhibition in Warsaw will last till the end of January 2005.
On Wednesday, Mikhail Shvydkoy and Waldemar Dabrowski signed a protocol on cooperation for 2004-2005 and agreed to organize the "Polish cultural season in Russia" in 2005.
