An Indian troupe has been performing all around Poland to mark what might perhaps be the first nationwide celebration of Diwali here.
Shakhwat Hussein and his ensemble from Delhi have been singing geets, ghazals, qawwalis and peppy Bollywood numbers and dancing bhangra style to halls packed with more Poles than Indians around the country this week.
Beginning with a show in Warsaw Nov 7, the troupe also performed in Lodz, Lublin, Rzeszow and Cracow before returning here for its final act.
India's ambassador Anil Wadhwa, who organised their tour with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), thanked Polish authorities for their cooperation, and for footing several of the bills.
"Poles are very interested in India, and this has been a satisfactory introduction," Wadhwa told IANS.
He hoped the ICCR would start a cultural centre here to organise such events on a regular basis.
