Green Light for Chmielna Tower

Plans for the construction of Chmielna Tower in central Warsaw have been given a green light to reach its projected height of nearly 300 metres. The tallest building in Poland is currently Warsaw's Palace of Culture and Science, which stands at 231 metres. Nearby is the site of a skyscraper, designed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, currently under construction with a projected height of 192 metres.

Plans for the Chmielna Tower were temporarily halted when it arose that, because of its site in the western Wola district, height regulations required by the Chopin International Airport would limit the building's height to just 130m. Buildings even closer to the airport cannot exceed as little as 30 metres. However, because of its location on the very edge of the airport region, the building has been approved for construction to its planned height of 260 metres (with an additional 22 metre-high antenna).

The ultra-modern skyscraper will be located at the corner of Chmielna and Miedzana streets, and is expected to be completed in 2014.
