Warsaw Rings In the New Year
Warsaw welcomed the new year with celebrations across Warsaw as fireworks illuminated the sky at the stroke of midnight.
The largest public party took place on Plac Konstytucji where a 60m x 20m stage was erected alongside a huge speaker system and massive lighting system (so powerful it was said they could illuminate a town of 60 000 inhabitants).
The six-hour concert featured performances by such Polish artists as Kasia Kowalska, Maciej Malenczuk, Urszula, IRA, Kombi, Golec uOrkiestra, and Varius Manx. The evening's headliners were visiting Swedish band Roxette, popular in the 80s and 90s.
After a rather tragic 2010 for Warsaw - a year which included multiple battles with flood waters, the Smolensk plane crash which killed all 96 of its passengers including the Polish president, as well as the controversies which followed the event - we hope 2011 will bring good fortune for the city.
Happy New Year and all the best from Warsaw Life!
