EuroPride Kicks Off in Warsaw
Europe's annual LGBT event, Europride, is taking place in Warsaw this week. This is the first time Europride has taken place in a Eastern European country and most likely the biggest gay pride event in Poland's history, a largely Catholic country with still quite conservative views.
The week-long event will see many cultural and social events taking place across the city. Among the highlights is the Eurofilm Festival taking place at Kinoteka cinema (in the Palace of Culture and Science, Plac Defilad 1) and a series of presentations and discussions at Nowy Wspanialy Swiat cafe (ul. Nowy Swiat 63). The main cultural attraction is the Ars Homo Erotica exhibition at the National Museum (Al. Jerozolimskie 3), which covers homo-erotic paintings and art from the museum's collection and beyond.
There's plenty of attractions in the evening as well, with many clubs in Warsaw hosting special Europride events. The biggest star of the festival is Boy George, who will be performing a DJ set on Thursday 15 July at M25 club (ul. Minska 25), an expansive club in post-industrial Praga.
The main event will of course be the Pride Parade, which will be taking place on Saturday 17th July. It will begin at 1PM on Plac Bankowy and will finish at Plac Defilad.
