Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall are passing through Poland for a three day visit as part of a tour that will continue to the Czech Republic and Hungary.
On their first day in Poland, the couple met with various diplomats in Warsaw including President Lech Kaczynski and Prime Minister Donald Tusk to discuss cultural, political, and economic matters. Prince Charles and Camilla also visited the tomb of Father Jerzy Popieluszko, a Catholic priest who was murdered by communist secret police for his activities connected with the Solidarity movement.
During his stay the Prince of Wales also traveled to north-eastern Poland to visit the primeval Bialowieza Forest home to the majestic wisent, a vulnerable species of European bison. He also paid a visit to a 18th century mosque in Kruszyniany, a village which was once a Muslim Tartar settlement. The Duchess of Cornwall chose to remain in Warsaw where she spent the day visiting the newly opened Chopin Museum.
