In celebration of 200 years since the birth of one of Poland’s most famous cultural figures, Frederic Chopin, 2010 has been named the Year of Chopin. Thousands of special events, exhibitions, and performances will take place in the man’s honour across the world, but the focus is on his homeland - Poland.
Officially opening the year-long festival was an inaugural concert which took place at the Warsaw Philharmonic under the direction of Antoni Wit. Chinese pianist Lang Lang performed the Andante spianato and Grand Polonaise in E flat major and Piano Concerto in F minor. The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir also performed Franz Liszt’s Missa Solemnis.
