This Polish men's volleyball team returned victorious to Warsaw this week. The Poles, led by Argentinian coach Daniel Castellani, managed to seize the gold medal in the European Championships in Izmir, Turkey. During the tense final, Poland beat France 3-1 while Bulgaria beat Russia for the bronze position. In addition to winning the championship, two members of the Polish team received special recognition: Piotr Gruszka as Most Valuable Player and Pawel Zabumny as Best Setter.

The team returned to Poland on Monday, when roughly 500 fans met the group at Warsaw's Okecie airport. Thousands more fans cheered on the team at Plac Defilad, where a welcoming ceremony took place later that day.

This is the first time a Polish team has won gold in an European Championship.
