A Volatile Start to Summer
For the last few weeks, the whole of Poland has been fighting a streak of nasty weather as dark clouds opened above nearly every part of the country leaving floods great and small in their wake. Thankfully, any real danger has been avoided though inconveniences have been many and countless homes and businesses suffered water damage on their lower floors.
So far, the peak of the rainy season in Warsaw was last week, when a particularly nasty storm on the night of Monday 29 June dragged the city to a halt on Tuesday morning. Roads were blocked and many buildings endured a least some sort of water damage or flooding. Even the Sejm (the Polish Parliament) and the central Zlote Tarasy shopping centre were fighting the effects of Monday night's storm, flooded with several centimetres of water, or more.
This week, the city has dried up quite a bit, but don't be surprised if you find some businesses closed or under repair. Other parts of the city, particularly the western side, still have a very high water level, and as many news providers have reported - some of the district residents have taken to using kayaks as an alternate form of transportation.
Unfortunately, the forecast for this week looks dreary, with rain clouds across the board. Life goes on, but an umbrella in hand is an absolute must!
