Once a bustling ticket kiosk and entrance to a PKP (Polish National Rail) station, the Warsaw Powisle building has stood abandoned in central Warsaw for many years. Built in the early 60s, Warsaw Powisle has all the modernist features so common in the architecture of Poland's Communist era.
In order to preserve this small part of Warsaw's cultural history, a small group of entrepreneurs have rented the 70m2 Warsaw Powisle space from the National Rail, renovating it into a cafe and club. The goal is to retain the almost UFO-like looks of the exterior, while simply updating the interior for the needs of a club.
The result was unveiled earlier this weekend, with the Warsaw Powsile opening party which took place on Friday. Hundreds attended the opening of this cultural kiosk, which featured live music from Antykrystyna, Distorted Animals, and Maciek Sienkiewicz.
