Warsaw has been named as a primary city for the Euro 2012 football tournament.
Poznan, Wroclaw also received good news. Cracow and Chorzow will remain reserve cities, but are unlikely to host matches.
It's not a big surprise for Warsaw organisers as the capital cities for Poland and Ukraine were expected to play host to matches. In the announcement, though, UEFA administrators gave good marks to Poland's progress to prepare for the tournament, but urged Ukraine to step up the pace of preparation in order to receive an additional city.
Four cities were initially planned for each country, but has been pared to four in Poland and two, at most, for Ukraine. Kiev is the single named city, but may not be the site of the final as previously announced. |
