In 2008, Warsaw beat out its traditional Polish rival to the south, Krakow, in its share of tourists. According to a survey carried out by Ipsos, the Polish capital was visited by 8.9 million tourists, more than double Krakow's 4.1 million.
But why the shift up the Vistula? Part of the reason is Warsaw's dominance of business travellers. In addition, Warsaw is easily the country's shopping capital, and with one in five visitors reportedly arriving with the intention of hitting the shops, it's no wonder Warsaw won out last year. |
