World-renowned musician and modern artist Yoko Ono arrived in Warsaw to open her second exhibition in Poland, titled "Fly," taking place at the Centre for Contemporary Art (CSW) in the Ujazdowski Castle. The last time the artist had exhibited at the CSW was 1993.
Ono greeted the Warsaw press with "flower-child grace," as described by Polish Radio, often telling her Polish audience how much she loves them. Kaja Pawelek, the director of the Centre for Contemporary Art, introduced the artist, stating that "Yoko Ono's art is very real. Young Polish artists will be very interested in her work. She is an inspiration for the next generation of artists."
The works on display were chosen by Ono herself, and many come from her series of "Instruction" works. The mainly text-based exhibition is made up of pieces, many spanning Ono's career, that were arranged in the exhibition space. The cumulative exhibition includes many of the artist's more iconic works, such as the 25-minute film "Fly" (1970), as well as a new work titled "Memory Painting" (2008), as well as a piece prepared specifically for the exhibition, titled "Telephone Piece for Warsaw." The exhibition will run until the 26th of October. |
