New Terminal Opens at Warsaw Airport
Warsaw's Frederic Chopin International Airport has just received a much-needed face-lift in the form of a new terminal (or would that be more like an breast enlargement? Ok, enough plastic surgery metaphors). Though delayed for two years, the terminal has opened just in time for passport-free travel within the EU as part of the Schengen enlargement that took place recently.
Ironically, the new terminal, called Terminal 2, is actually the fourth terminal in the airport, which includes Terminal 1, a domestic terminal, and the Etiuda Terminal, which handles mostly cheap flights to and from Warsaw. The new terminal will handle international flights, including flights to the United States and Canada as well as passport-free flights to other Schengen zone countries in Europe. Some domestic flight will take off from the new terminal as well, beginning in April. The new terminal means that the Warsaw Airport is now about the same size as the Prague Airport, and bigger than Budapest's, and will be able to handle 15 million passengers per year.
