Some 300,000 Polish fans are gearing up to travel to Germany for the first round of the World Cup, latest estimates show. This number would be some seven times greater than earlier predictions. The news has created a touch of nervous anticipation both at home and abroad, but as of yet, it's difficult to say whether the Poles will live up to the belligerent image that has been propagated by many newspapers.
The Poles were allocated some 10,000 tickets for their first round games, which will be against Germany, Ecuador and Costa Rica. Meanwhile, Germany's prostitutes are preparing for a boom month. Prostitution is legal in Germany and many ladies are poised for a productive month. However, it has been suggested that demand will outstrip supply. To complicate matters, reports have brought word of a wave of trafficking that has materialized to meet the demand, casting a shadow over the progressive legal arrangement. Many Catholic groups are rallying to illuminate the shady underside of this red-light boom.
