The Pope's Visit to Warsaw

Pope Benedict XVI will hold 12 speeches during his journey in Poland. The most anticipated one is the speech he will make in Auschwitz where he will pray for the victims of concentration camps.

The Pope's plane, an Alitalia flight, will leave on Thursday May 25 at 8.40 from the Leonardo da Vinci international airport in Fiumicino to the international airport of Okecje in Warsaw.

After the welcome ceremony with president of the Republic Lech Kaczynski and the official speeches, Pope Benedict will go with a panoramic car to the Cathedral of Saint John where he will meet the clergy before cardinal Jozef Glemp and the Polish bishop's conference.

After the meeting the Pope will pray at Cardinal August Hlond and Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski's tombs. These two cardinals were the chiefs of the Church's opposition to the Communist regime.

In the afternoon the Pope will go to the presidential palace of Warsaw where he will meet the president of the Republic. Later there will be an ecumenical meeting in the Lutheran church of the Holy Trinity. The ecumenical council president will take part in the meeting too.
