Warsaw has prevailed over four other Polish cities in a fierce competition to host 120 of the planet's most beautiful women for the Miss World 2006 final on September 30, local media reported Monday.

The Polish capital topped the bids of the majestic royal southern city of Krakow, the Baltic Sea port city of Gdansk, the Teutonic castle enclave of Malbork and Wroclaw, renowned for its architecture.

In January, Miss World organisers made the surprise announcement that European Union newcomer Poland, reputed as home to some of the most beautiful women in the world, would host the Miss World 2006 final.

This year's bevy of international contestants will spend a month in Warsaw beginning Sep 1.

Some two billion people around the globe watched the 2005 final held in the Chinese beach city of Sanya, which also hosted the 2003 and 2004 finals. Before that, pageants were also held in South Africa and Britain. The Winner of the 2005 title was Miss Iceland, Unnur Birna Vilhjalmsdottir.
