Conflict Over Church Project
The Polish Parliament has approved allocating 20 milllion zlotys or over 5 million euros to speed up the construction of the Divine Providence Temple in Warsaw.
The move was criticized by the opposition, which points out that under the present law the government cannot finance church construction. The ruling Law and Justice promised to present a relevant amendment soon.
The construction of the huge temple began in 2002 but was stalled due to shortage of funds. It was so far financed with donations from the faithful and cost 30 million zlotys.
