Bollywood Hits Poland

Bollywood bonanzas are not normally known for getting jiggy with it at -20 centigrade. But the producers of 'Fanaah' - a tale of troubled love set against the backdrop of snowy Kashmir - decided that Poland was the answer.

'Fanaah', which goes for the heart with its plot of a terrorist who falls for a Kashmiri girl, could not be filmed in Kashmir itself for obvious reasons. Thus a clutch of Bollywood's brightest stars are now enjoying the chilly charms of Poland's Tatra mountains.

It's the first time that an Indian film crew has shot in Poland, and aside from the necessity to wrap up rather warmer than usual, the film crew are delighted with the scenario.

Big cheese Vinod Khanna has voiced his intention to encourage other Bolly teams to head this way. Besides the high standards of Polish co-production teams, the chief noted that 'the cost of labour is cheaper than anywhere in Europe.'

Indian ambassador Anil Wadha was also enthusiastic: "I do hope more and more Indian film crews will come to shoot in the spring and summer months when parts of the Polish landscape are as beautiful as some parts of Switzerland," he added.
