Pole Revs Up For Formula One

As temperatures continue to plummet, we thought we'd bring you news of a less freezing variety. Indeed, whilst motorists brave the snows and ice here in Polska, sunny Spain has just hosted the unveiling of BMW's new Formula One team.

What on earth has all this got to do with Poland you might ask? Well, the newcomer to the team is a 21 year old rising star from Cracow called Robert Kubica. He's already notched up one championship victory at Renault's World Series 2005 and the youngster looks poised to be a major player on the international scene.

Best of all, it emerges that the Polish champ found his calling at none other than Cracow's gloriously surreal 'Motodrom' go-carting circuit, located down in Kazimierz at the nineteenth century tram depot.

When asked whether he finds it frustrating to drive in his native city, Kubica replied that he invariably takes the tram. A wise man, especially in the current climate...

(Many thanks to our roving sports correspondent Marta Urbanska for debriefing us on Cracow's racing conquistador).
