Freedom Balloons Will Fly Over Belarus

One thousand coloured balloons will soar to Belarus from Bialystok, northeast Poland next Monday in support of democratic change in the country, the Polish branch of the Robert Schuman Foundation announced Tuesday.

More balloons will be sent to Belarus on February 16 and March 16, shortly before the close of Belarus's presidential campaign.

Schuman Foundation head Piotr Nowina-Konopka stressed the importance of European support for Belarus.

'This idea, which originated in Poland, is now becoming European. Lukashenka must realize that his conflict is with entire civilized Europe. The balloons will be filled with the wind of freedom, a wind that rarely blows in Belarus,' Nowina-Konopka said.
