13th of December marks the 24th anniversary of the introduction of martial law in Poland, a date which is an important one in the pages of Polish history. However, 58% of Poles cannot fully remember the date, though they recall that martial law was introduced by general Wojciech Jaruzelski.

According to latest surveys by the Pentor polling centre, historical awareness is very poor among the youth - 80% of the respondents in the age bracket of 15-19 could not remember the date of martial law introduction.

Sociologists lay the blame on schools, but these say that in this situation it is the family which should cultivate the awareness of modern history of Poland among young people.
