INTERNATIONAL COLLECTION OF CONTEMPORARY ART 5TH EDITION

The 5th edition of the Centre for Contemporary Art's International Art Collection will feature works from over 90 artists, including over 30 from abroad, incorporating different media such as painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, installations, video, recordings of art happenings and public projects. The exhibition will provide a sort of retrospective for the Centre, which has accumulated one of the best collections of modern art in Poland over its 20 years, reflecting the metamorphosis of the country through art. The works presented span the era from the early 1960s until the present decade, and feature both prominent Polish artists as well as those they drew inspiration from. The exhibition opens at the end of March and runs through the 6th of September.

CLASSICAL: Chopin Summer Concerts

Every Sunday beneath the Chopin statue in Warsaw's gorgeous Lazienki park, pianists from around the world perform works by one of Poland's best-loved composers. September is the last month to catch one of these free concerts, with performances by Osako Chiemi, Bozena Maciejowska, Maciej Piszek, Karolina Nadolska, Julia Kociuban, Pawel Filek, Filip Wojciechowski, and Maciej Poliszewski. Concerts at 12pm and 4pm.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Blazej Zulawski

Warsaw club Dobra Karma (Good Karma) is hosting a debut exhibition from exciting young artist, journalist and photographer Blazej Zulawski. Titled "Eye on the City”, Zulawski presents an alternative view of of Warsaw specifically choosing colourful, vibrant and mysterious locations in the city for his collection. Zulawski shot his entire collection on Polaroid, with no computer processing or manipulation involved, thus giving his exhibition a raw, authentic feel – sure to delight photographic purists.

Orange Warsaw Festival

This month's Orange Warsaw Festival is taking place right smack-bang in the centre of Warsaw next to the Palace of Culture and Science on Plac Defilad. The two days of the festival will see performances by top international bands and electronic artists including Razorlight, MGMT, Groove Armada, N*E*RD, The Crystal Method and Calvin Harris. Theatre: Puss in Boots

Wilanów is more than just a historic palace and educational museum, on weekends it also plays host to the Royal Theatre. Wilanów will be the perfect family destination this September with performances of Puss in Boots taking place until the 12th. Some knowledge of Polish would probably be a good idea, though the play is performed as a pantomime so there are plenty of visual treats for those who don't completely catch the clever rhyming poetry. Performances start at 11am.

Zabkowska Street Party

Every year Zabkwoska street in the Praga district throws a party, with this year's theme being Multicultural Praga. This means that the celebration will not only focus on the Polish culture of the area, but also the culture of some of the district's other residents such as those of Jewish or Russian descent who also represent the face of contemporary Praga.

Cross-Culture Warsaw Festival

The Cross-Culture festival is a celebration of world music and culture, and like in the past five editions, its organizers have brought performers from the far reaches of the world. This year's schedule is full of interesting acts from India, Spain, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Brazil, and more. Headlining the even this year is Youssou N'Dour, a vocalist from Senegal. Tickets start at 30 zloty.

Warsaw Autumn Festival of Contemporary Music

It's hard to believe that the Warsaw Autumn Festival is already in its 52nd year, as it continues to expand into the huge annual event it is now. Over one week in September, the entire city will be engulfed in the activities of this festival which will include concerts, both of a traditional (think orchestras and operas) and modern sense. Electronic sounds are a particular focus of the Autumn festival, and several institutions from around the globe will be visiting including the prestigious STEIM of Amsterdam and IRCAM of Paris. Concert: Berliner Philharmoniker

Conducting the Berliner Philharmoniker at this concert is Sir Simon Rattle, who will lead the group through two symphonies. First up is Ludwig van Beethoven's Second Symphony in D-Major, which will be followed by Dimitri Shostakovitch's Fourth Symphony in C-Minor. Concert starts at 8pm.
