Exihibition: "The Secret of Chinese Genius"

The Secret of Chinese Genius exhibition is showing at the Museum of Technology in the Palace of Culture and Science throughout August and September. Over 70 inventions of Chinese technology are on display, in an exhibition designed to present Chinese innovation to the Polish audience. Each exhibit is an original or a copy of the original made with traditional methods, with the exception of some smaller-scale models, and some tools on display will even be open for the public to try out, hands-on. Visitors to the exhibition will be able to learn who invented the wheelbarrow, how paper was made 2000 years ago, when paper money made its appearance and why the Chinese were able to execute long-distance cruises, among other technological curiosities. The exhibition is organized by the Museum of Technology and the Dong-Feng Polish-Chinese Foundation for the Promotion of Culture and Art.

Chopin Summer Concerts

The beautiful Lazienki Park is the setting of the annual Chopin Memorial Sunday Concerts organized by the Warsaw Fryderyk Chopin Society, which take place from May through September on sunny Sundays. Weekly, the works of one of Poland's most famous sons fill the summer air starting at noon and 4:00 pm, at Waclaw Szymanowski's magnificent memorial to Fredryck Chopin at the main entrance to Lazienki Park. All of the concerts are performed by some of the best pianists in the country, so you can rest assured they'll do the prolific composer justice.

Exhibition: "Like a Meteor"

The National Museum in Warsaw is proud to present a new exhibition, "Like a Meteor... Stanislaw Wyspianski 1869-1907". The exhibition celebrates the year of Stanislaw Wyspianski, and the 100th anniversary of his death. The collection includes around 200 works by the visionary Polish artist, including six oil paintings, around 50 pastels, numerous sketches, drawings, as well as a rich collection of correspondence and other materials. Part of the collection has never before been shown to the public. The exhibition will be supplemented by film showings of the works of director Andrzej Wajda and set designer Krystyna Zachwatowicz, who made films are based on Wyspianski's plays "Noc listopadowa" and "Wesele".

Montownia Gallery Exhibition

The Montownia Artistic Centre, a renowned Warsaw theatre known for its experimental works, is opening its very own gallery with an exhibition Polish art of the younger generation. The space of Montownia's pool will be filled with artworks by Polish artist Michal Mackiewicz, an exhibition of "modern icons" joining sculpture, painting, photography, stenography, and other techniques. The exhibition will then be open to the public before and after every theatre performance until the end of September.

Musical Summer at Otwocki Palace

Every Sunday from the 5th of August until the 2nd of September, the Otwocki Palace will be hosting the second Musical Summer, starting at 4 pm. Each performance is absolutely free, and features professional Polish performers playing a variety of music, from an accordion quartet covering Bach and Mozart to a performance by a full choir.

Dance Summer 2007

The Riviera School of Dance in Warsaw is the organizer of the seventh rendition of Dance Summer 2007: International Dance Workshops. All of the workshops will take place at the dance school, with all types of dance being taught, from funky and modern jazz, to hip-hop, to belly dancing, body conditioning, salsa, tango, and flamenco, to even classical dance. The week-long session of workshops will work to not only introduce beginners to new dance styles, but improve the techniques of even experienced dancers - or those who like to believe they are, at least after a few drinks on a dimly-lit dance floor. Either way, their professional instructors along with special guests from abroad will work to improve and introduce new styles, and most importantly bring out the fun and beauty in dancing.

European Festival of Performance Art

The European Festival of Performance Art EPAF 2007 is organized by and takes place in the Zamek Ujazdowski Centre for Contemporary Art. The festival will feature performers from all over the world, in a four day event that will aim to bring the art of performance to a wider audience.

Concert: Ayo

This September, a special concert will take place in Warsaw. Rock sensation Ayo, whose debut album "Joyful" reached platinum status in Poland in a record four weeks, will be performing live for the first time in Warsaw thanks to Good Music Productions. With her spectacular voice and extraordinary musical talent, Ayo blends the traditions and musical stylings of several cultures; and no wonder, as the Nigerian native was raised in Germany, and presently lives in France. Her warm, melancholy, yet pop-influenced melodies have won her many fans, and undoubtedly will win her many more on her tour through Poland. Tickets are priced between 130 and 190 PLN.

Festival of Early Polish Music

The 26th Festival of Early Polish Music, titled "Ad Hymnos ad Cantus" will take place in several historic buildings in Warsaw at the end of September and is organized by the Warsaw Chamber Opera. The program includes a concert of Jozef Elsner's music at the Seminary Church at 8:00 pm on the 14th of September, a performance of Antoni Stolpe's piano works at Teatre WOK at 7:00 pm on the 16th, a performance of Marcin Józef Żebrowski's works at the Church of the Visitation of the BVM at 8:00 pm on the 19th, a symphony and mass by Wojciech Dankowski at 8:00 pm at the Seminary Church on the 21st, a grand performance of several composers on the 26th at 8:00 pm at the Church of the Visitation of the BVM, and finally a concert of Damian Stachowicz's works at the Church of the Visitation of the BVM at 8:00 pm on the 28th.

Warsaw Autumn Festival

The Warsaw Autumn Festival is a festival of contemporary classical music that takes place every autumn in various cultural centres, churches, and music halls of the city, with the majority of the concerts being held in the National Philharmonic Hall and the Zacheta Gallery. The festival's history goes back to its establishment in 1956 during the dark days of Communism, when the organizers decided to introduce lighter, more modern music to the general public. Though the festival lasts only nine days, nevertheless about twenty concerts manage to take place, with esteemed musicians from all over the world performing.

International Art Festival

The International Art Festival will feature 69 artists from 12 different countries, and will take place in several locations in Warsaw, including the Norblin Factory, Dzialan Gallery, Test Gallery, XXI Gallery, and the Mazowieckie Centre of Culture and Art, among others. Besides a variety of exhibitions, there will be discussion panels and several other corresponding events throughout the weekend.
