Exhibition: "This is Not an Exhibition"

The project "This is Not an Exhibition" is an atypical presentation of selected works from the Zacheta National Gallery of Art's collection. Instead of focusing on the works themselves, the anti-exhibition focuses on the process of caring for works of art, specifically the more problematic works of modern art composed through non-traditional techniques. The exposition will show a process, presenting many exhibits as they are documented, go through conservation works, and mounted for exhibition. There will be also talks with the artists about their workshops and the concepts behind their creation.

Zofia Lipecka's exhibition "After Jedwabne" is a reaction to Jan Tomasz Gross’s 2001 book Neighbours, and will be showing at the Zacheta National Gallery of Art from the 8th of March until the 18th of May. The exhibition includes a presentation of video-installations presenting several faces showing their reactions to a reading of text from Gross's book, which tells of the killing of Jews by Poles in Poland during World War II, in a tragic event known as the Jedwabne pogrom or Jedwabne massacre. Through the exhibition, the spectators surrounded by the projections themselves become a part of the installation and are forced to immerse themselves in the subject matter. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue with texts by Philippe Piguet and Elzbieta Janicka (in Polish, English, and French).

Exhibition: "Ancient Treasures of Ukraine"

The exhibition "Ancient Treasures of Ukraine" will be shown at the National Museum in Warsaw from the 15th of April until the 29th of June 2008. It is the first presentation outside of Ukraine of these high-profile works which come from a private collection carefully compiled by industrialists Sergiej Platonow and Sergiej Tarut. In the first decade of Ukraine's turbulent transition from communism to democracy, they began collecting these works in an attempt to save them from harm and from being sold off to foreign investors, and have thus amassed one of the richest accumulations of archaeological documentations of the country's past. The exhibition will present 400 works ranging from about 6000 BC through the Middle Ages, documenting the most important periods in the incredibly rich history of Ukraine, including relics from the cultures that used to inhabit ancient Ukraine, such as the Greeks, Romans, and Russians.
