Teatre Sabat Anniverary

In December of 2007 Sabat Theatre will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of its existence. For the occasion, the theatre has prepared a month of special events, including a photography exhibition titled "Starry Mermaid", an open day, during which the theatre will be open to the public, and an extraordinary show based on the songs of Jerzy Jurandot titled "No One Will Return These Years".

Exhibition: "Flemish Painting of the Golden Age"

The exhibition "Southern Netherlands in the 17th century - Flemish Painting of the Golden Age" will be shown at the National Museum in Warsaw from the 6th of November until the 30th of December. The exhibition focuses primarily on the works of Rubens, Van Dyck, and Jordaens in the years 1608 until 1678, or, as the exhibition's title suggest, the Golden Age in Flemish painting.

Exhibition: "Not Just the Kebab"

Despite its name, "Not Just the Kebab" has nothing to do with everyone's favourite 4 am meal, but is rather an exhibition of contemporary Turkish art. The exhibition has been organized by the Warsaw Artists' Cadre (Warszawski Aktyw Artystow), and will be shown at their gallery. It will open at 7 pm on the 24th of November, and run through the 8th of December.

Exhibition: "Wilhelm Sasnal. Years of Struggle"

The Zacheta National Gallery of Art will be exhibiting a retrospective of Wilhelm Sasnal's work throughout December 2007 and January and February 2008. Sasnal is one of the most talented painters of the young generation, and the exhibition will show his paintings as well as the films the artist has produced over the last few years. While the themes of his paintings range from family photographs to the internet to books, references are made to his native hometown of Tarnow, as well as themes of war and the Holocaust and post-war Polish life in general. The exhibition will also feature numerous portraits and even designs on t-shirts made by the artist.

Exhibition: "GIUSEPPE!!! IN WARSAW"

The exhibition titled GIUSEPPE!!! IN WARSAW is the work of Italian artist Giuseppe Pietroniro, and partly a tribute to Polish artist Andrzej Partum, whose manifesto on shameless art is alluded to in the exhibition, along with the exhibition's title, based on Partum's own 1957 action titled PARTUM!!! IN WARSAW. The main attraction of the exhibition will be the giant map of Warsaw Pietroniro has drawn on the wall of the Kordegarda Gallery. The artist has invited all visitors to mark the places they have come from in the city, transforming the map of the capital into a portrait of the city composed of individual histories, a register of the capital that will remain open until the end of the exhibition.

Exhibition: "First Scene" Design Collections

The Wilanow Poster Museum is starting a cycle of Polish design presentations in collaboration with the Centre of Modern Design of the National Museum in Warsaw. The series of exhibitions will feature fragments of a rich collection of Polish design and crafts after 1918. The 'First Scene' of the collection will showcase furniture, tapestries, glass and ceramics, gadgets, jewellery, and toys.

Exhibition: "Open House"

The exhibition "Open House - Architecture and Technology for Intelligent Living" will be shown at the Centre for Contemporary Art in the Ujast Castle. The exhibition was prepared by the Vitra Design Museum in Germany in cooperation with the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. The Open House presentation combines an exhibition with a research initiative that envisions the house of the future. The focus is on the way recent technologies can change the way we shape, respond to, and enhance our domestic space in intelligent ways, and the exhibition emphasizes a human-centred rather than technology-centred view of the future. Featured architects include Atelier Hitoshi Abe from Japan, Mass Studies from South Korea, Sean Godsell Architects from Australia, HookerKitchen from the UK and several other prominent names in architecture and design.

Open Day for Disabled Persons at the National Museum

On the 3rd of December from 10 in the morning until 5 pm, the National Museum in Warsaw opens its doors free of charge to disabled persons and their caretakers. All of the temporary and permanent exhibitions will be open throughout the day.

Young Polish Animation

On the 4th of December at 7 pm in Warsaw's club-cafe Chlodna 25 another meeting of "Culture 2.0" will take place, this time featuring young Polish animation. The program includes animated film screenings by some of Poland's most unique young animators from Poland's animation school. After the films, the animators will be around for a discussion. Entrance is free, and participants will even receive some holiday goodies!

Watch Docs Film Festival

The annual Watch Docs Film Festival focuses on human rights on film, and will take place in Warsaw's Ujazdowski Castle and across Warsaw from the 7th through the 16th of December. The festival is sponsored by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights. The festival involves screenings of over 70 documentary films on 12 topics related to human rights, and attracts audiences of 15,000.

Play: "The Party"

"The Party" is an English adaptation of Polish writer Slawomir Mrozek's "Zabawa", a story of two farm-hands trying to entertain themselves by sacrificing the third, thus creating an atmosphere of celebration in the form of a funeral banquet. Accompanied by a musical interval by the trio of actors on fiddle, accordion, and percussion, "The Party" makes for an evening of unique entertainment and humour from one of Poland's best satirical writers.

Warsaw Philharmonic Concert

The Warsaw Philharmonic symphony orchestra and choir, conducted by Grammy-nominated Antoni Wit, will perform a concert featuring the works of Beethoven and Ralph Vaughan Williams at 7:30 pm on the 14th of December. The concert features Beethoven's Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage op. 112 for choir and orchestra and Fantasy in C Minor for piano, choir and orchestra Op. 80, and Williams' A Sea Symphony.

Exhibition: "Living in Basel"

This December Clodna 25 club and gallery is hosting an exhibition of the drawings of artist Pola Dwurnik, along with a release of her book of illustrations titled "Living in Basel". In May 2004 Pola Dwurnik moved to Basel, Switzerland for 20 months thanks to the Swiss foundation Laurenz-Haus Stiftung. During her residency her main focus was painting, but she often found herself drawing; the exhibition and book are the results of those sketches.

New Year's Eve in Stodola

Warsaw's famed Stodola Club has been doing something right year after year if this year's New Year's Eve celebration is their 51st. This New Year's, Marcin Czyzewski with the band RE-TRO will be leading the party with the best music from the 50s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. And for those who want something a bit more modern, DJ Tomi will shake the walls with the newest hits from the best clubs in the world. All in all, there will be something for everyone at Stodola, and each ticket includes a reserved seat, a hot meal, cold appetizers, hot and cold drinks, and of course, alcohol, the magic ingredient of any successful New Year's party! New Year's Costume Ball

The Riviera Dance School invites you to spend New Year's Eve in a world of costumes and dance, at their costume ball. But you don't have to be an expert dancer to join in the fun - in fact, the event will feature dance lessons and a presentation of the school's dancers, to inspire you to get your feet moving. And if you're more into the 'costume' part of the costume ball, there will also be prizes awarded for the most original costumes. Afterwards, the party will continue, led by the school's instructors, with music from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. A ticket to the event includes cold appetizers, two warm courses, cakes and fruit, cold drinks, and wine and champagne at midnight.
