Exhibition: "Like a Meteor"

The National Museum in Warsaw is proud to present a new exhibition, "Like a Meteor... Stanislaw Wyspianski 1869-1907". The exhibition celebrates the year of Stanislaw Wyspianski, and the 100th anniversary of his death. The collection includes around 200 works by the visionary Polish artist, including six oil paintings, around 50 pastels, numerous sketches, drawings, as well as a rich collection of correspondence and other materials. Part of the collection has never before been shown to the public. The exhibition will be supplemented by film showings of the works of director Andrzej Wajda and set designer Krystyna Zachwatowicz, who made films are based on Wyspianski's plays "Noc listopadowa" and "Wesele". The exhibition has been extended until the 14th of October.

Exhibition: "Time Remembered"

The exhibition "Time Remembered" at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Lazienki Park remembers the Mala Gallery during its existence between 1977 and 2006. The Mala Gallery was one of the longest-running independent galleries in Poland. After being established in 1977 by the prominent artist Zbigniew Dlubak and his friends, several established artists and photographers curated the gallery's exhibitions throughout the years. Throughout its history, many artist meetings, discussions, film showings, performances and happenings took place there, in addition to 355 exhibitions, most of which presented works for the first time. As the gallery's focus was photography, its catalogues tell a nearly complete story of the history of Polish photography in the past three decades. The current exhibition at the Centre of Contemporary Art will display the works of 30 artists who had cooperated with the Mala Gallery in the past, as well as works and recordings documenting the gallery's activities throughout its history.

International Art Festival

The International Art Festival will feature 69 artists from 12 different countries, and will take place in several locations in Warsaw, including the Norblin Factory, Dzialan Gallery, Test Gallery, XXI Gallery, and the Mazowieckie Centre of Culture and Art, among others. Besides a variety of exhibitions, there will be discussion panels and several other corresponding events throughout the weekend.

Exhibition: "The Art of Conservators"

The Museum of Interiors in Otwock Wielki has organized a special exhibition called "The Art of Conservators" focusing on - you guessed it - the art of conservation. The exhibition will feature conservation works from the National Museum in Warsaw, which nearly thirty conservators have been working on restoring. The exhibition will run from the 7th of September until the end of October.

Concert: Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle

The big buzz in the alternative scene this year has been surrounding Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle. Ultra Orange, a group formed by husband and wife Pierrego and Gil Emery, have existed since the mid-90s but only now are joined by actress (and wife of Roman Polanski) Emmanuelle Seigner as a vocalist. The album recorded with the actress is the fourth in their repertoire.

Exhibition: "The Japanese Poster - Today"

The exhibition "The Japanese Poster - Today" comes from the collection of the DNP Archives of Graphic Design in Tokyo, and will be shown at the Wilanow Poster Museum for the first time. The exhibition is a closer look at the multifaceted contemporary culture of Japan, through the eyes of both established artists and young designers. Under the computer-manipulated designs lie classic techniques such as calligraphy, collage, and hints at Japan's long history of artistic innovation. The display encompasses over 120 works from the last fifteen years, incorporating various themes and purposes. The opening of the exhibition will take place at 5 pm on October 5th, and the exhibition will be open to the public from the 6th of October until the 25th of November.

Nike Run Warsaw

Get your running shoes on - Nikes, of course - and prepare to test your abilities in the annual Nike Run through Warsaw. The run (or jog, depending on your ambition) will begin at the market near Torwar at 8 pm, and each runner can decide at the 4 km mark whether they want to take the shorter course of 5 km, or go full out for 10 km. The race ends at ul. Łazienkowska.

The Era of Jazz - Nnenna Freelon

The Era of Jazz concert series has in the past brought several top American artists to the Polish audience for the first time, including the legendary saxophonist Steve Lacy, Lee Konitz, vocal quartet The New York Voices, brilliant pianists Jacques Loussier and Jacky Terrason, as well as the world-famous Oregon. This time, The Era of Jazz is proud to introduce the famous American jazz singer Nnenna Freelon for her only concert in Poland. Freelon is one of the most important figures in contemporary jazz, and has been nominated for a Grammy Award, as well as receiving the Billie Holiday and Soul Train awards, among others. Having several best-selling records as well as countless concerts throughout the US and Europe under her belt, today Freelon is undoubtedly one of the most influential vocalists in the contemporary jazz scene, and finally the Polish audience will get to experience her magical voice. The concert will take place in the Congressional Hall of the Palace of Culture, and begins at 8 pm.

Warsaw International Film Festival

Film fans are in for a treat this October as the Warsaw Film Fest rolls into town. Expect art-house offerings from every corner of the globe, with a special emphasis of course on up-and-coming Polish talent. Films are usually screened in their original language with Polish subtitles and participating cinemas include Kinoteka (Palace of Science and Culture on pl. Defilad 1), Palladium (ul. Zlota 7/9) and Luna (ul. Marszalkowska 28). Over 100 films are shown throughout the festival, and awards are given to the best and most popular films.

Freeform Festival 2007

The Freeform Festival 2007 is the third edition of this inventive event, and will take place between the 12th and 13th of October this year, starting at 7 pm each evening. The festival focuses on bringing new sounds from all over Europe to the Warsaw stage, including experimental music mixing jazz, funk, electro, and even afrobeats. The stars of this year's festival are Jimi Tenor and Kabu Kabu from Finland, Parov Stelar from Austria, and an audio-visual set by Giraffentoast from Germany.

Concert: Brendan Monaghan

Irish singer Brendan Monaghan and fiddle player Niall McClean will be performing at the Art Bem Cultural Centre on Friday, 12th October 2007 starting at 9 pm. The concert is part of the singer's tour through Germany, Holland, Lithuania and Poland.

Concert: Fish

The band Fish, or the project of former Marillion frontman Derek W. Dick, is playing in Warsaw this October as part of the "Clutching at Stars" European tour. The Scottish singer will mostly be playing material from his latest album, "Thirteenth Star", which includes older material from his Marillion days as well. Fish is returning exactly a year after a series of successful concerts in Poland and throughout Europe. After splitting with Matillion in 1988, the musician has been writing material and touring for nearly 20 years, and this year's tour promises to not disappoint.

Robert Kudelski Sings French Songs

Polish singer and actor Robert Kudelski will be singing French classics for two days this October. On the 27th beginning at 4 pm, he will cover a generous part of the repertoire of Jacues Brel. On the 28th, also at 4 pm, he will be performing the songs of Aznavour.

Concert: Roisin Murphy

The former vocalist of the legendary band Moloko, Roisin Murphy will be playing two dates in Poland, including one in Warsaw's very own Club Stodola, at ul. Batorego 10, on the 30th of October. The concert starts at 8 pm, and tickets can be obtained at the Empik megastore at ul. Nowy Swiat 15/17, at Galeria Mokotow and Wola Park shopping centres, as well as all Media Markt and Saturn stores in Warsaw.
