Exhibition: "Wilhelm Sasnal. Years of Struggle"

The Zacheta National Gallery of Art will be exhibiting a retrospective of Wilhelm Sasnal's work throughout December 2007 and January and February 2008. Sasnal is one of the most talented painters of the young generation, and the exhibition will show his paintings as well as the films the artist has produced over the last few years. While the themes of his paintings range from family photographs to the internet to books, references are made to his native hometown of Tarnow, as well as themes of war and the Holocaust and post-war Polish life in general. The exhibition will also feature numerous portraits and even designs on t-shirts made by the artist.

The exhibition titled GIUSEPPE!!! IN WARSAW is the work of Italian artist Giuseppe Pietroniro, and partly a tribute to Polish artist Andrzej Partum, whose manifesto on shameless art is alluded to in the exhibition, along with the exhibition's title, based on Partum's own 1957 action titled PARTUM!!! IN WARSAW. The main attraction of the exhibition will be the giant map of Warsaw Pietroniro has drawn on the wall of the Kordegarda Gallery. The artist has invited all visitors to mark the places they have come from in the city, transforming the map of the capital into a portrait of the city composed of individual histories, a register of the capital that will remain open until the end of the exhibition.

The Open House presentation combines an exhibition with a research initiative that envisions the house of the future. The focus is on the way recent technologies can change the way we shape, respond to, and enhance our domestic space in intelligent ways, and the exhibition emphasizes a human-centred rather than technology-centred view of the future.
