Warsaw Tortilla Factory

This one's a solid bet if you're looking for good Mexican at reasonable prices. However, bear in mind that half of Warsaw are aware of this so booking before hand would be a sagely thing to do. All the classics are here. They do a good burritto and portions are generous. The bar plays everything from blues to house and plenty of young musketeers (and damsels) drop by for drinks alone. All in all this is a lively and popular spot with expats and Poles alike who share a love for the spicy tucker and the splendid beer (after a few of the latter it can be difficult to find the bathroom door which is cleverly concealed in the decor.)

"habanero sauce rocks here, and the burritos best in town. and as for the nights here, let the amnesia suffered by many speak for itself. And claim below declaring The Mexican to be better, my cheeky, chippy cherry, burritos are not meant to be served with cabbage and beetroot, tortillas are meant to be fresh, and salsa should not be tipped from a tin. "S**** food and an owner who doesn't give f**k about what any of the customers think. Don't even bother thinking about this hellhole, the best thing that'll happen is you get food poisoning. More likely you'll wait for more than an hour for your food, get served a plate of crap, have random things added to your bill and then get a rude p***k insulting you when you complain, and then find out later you've got food poisoning."

"First of all I have to say that we called here at 10.15 on a Sunday right before New Year and after we'd asked for and received menus, and sat down for about 5 minutes the waitress came over and informed us that the kitchen was closed. This was a bit of a crisis because we really didn't want to go back out and trawl the cold streets of Warsaw looking for something else at that time of night, in a city we don't know. Anyway, fair play, we asked her if she knew anywhere else, she left to ask the chef (is it really a 50 year old Polish woman?) and came back 5 minutes later saying that it was ok for us to order. This basically saved our night! Drinks : 2 margaritas on the rocks. Didn't come on the rocks, and was a little sweet for my taste but can't complain about this. 2 beers : Fine, always good beer in Poland. Nice and cold. Food. Nachos Grande, beef burrito & vegetarian fajitas. nachos was pretty ordinary, fajitas were good, according to my lady friend and burrito was ordinary. However, I'm pretty demanding when it comes to Tex-Mex and food in general, as I've worked in the restaurant business for over a decade and a gourmet Tex-Mex (if you can imagine that concept!) in Norway for a year, so I think for someone with less demanding tastes this food would have passed muster. Service was good, and we were the last to leave but didn't feel like they were chasing us out. This was probably a 3,5/5. It's recommended in most guide books and I also had a friend who lived here for a year back in 2004 who wholeheartedly recommended it. So, I say take it for what it is and enjoy the good drinks and sound system! ;)"

"antonio, i totally agree, poles (or most europeans for that matter) cannot make good mexican food. i lived in texas, so i know what it should taste like. doritos with white mozarella cheese on them are not nachos, people! when will there be a mexican restaurant in poland with actual mexicans making the food?? until then it will continue to be a crappy polish imitation. i advise anyone who has had real mexican food to make it at home themselves and save some money, it will be more authentic anyway. that's what i do!"

"I have tried all the Mexican restaurants in Warsaw and I can assure you Tortilla Factory is the closest thing to Authentic Mexican food. I lived in Arizona and California for a good portion of my life and have made countless trips to Mexico. I consider myself a connoisseur of Mexican food from both above and below the border. Tortilla factory definitely gets two thumbs up. I think the key is the freshly made tortillas made in-house. Prices are very reasonable in comparison to the other Mexi-joints in Warsaw. It is also a very popular place for locals and expats to mingle and get warmed up before hitting the town."

"I used to live in Warsaw in 2002. I always hang out here from 11pm until the closing time. Drinks are excellent and the sandwiches are fantastic. The best part is the service. In fact, I dated one of the waitresses, her name is Ania Bolesta. Does she still work there?"

"Best Mexican food in Europe. Actually, the tastiest Mexican food I have had anywhere including the States. Great selection of homemade sales. Huge portions, very reasonable prices. As the name implies, they make their own tortillas. Margaritas are awesome. Very lively in the evenings. Service could be better."

"Notice the girl in the bottom left corner. It's quite a common site to see your wait staff huddled up in the corner, or further back out of site. You can never get your check on time, or a refill without having to flag down the staff. As for take out orders, don't expect to get the accompanying things such as salsa and sour cream with it. The wait staff will usually forget to put it in your carryout. Did I mention that my food is usually cold when served at the table? Should I mention that they have ran out of cheddar/jack cheese on their enchillads and substitute it with bluecheese or something of the sort, and fail to tell the customer? They really need to improve on many things here before I will come back. Richard Capet Town, SA. "

"If you like to be flanked by people saying "yo" and "peace out" and jaundiced old Brits belting out offensive jokes then by all means go here. Apart from this dubious claim to fame I found little to recommmend the Factory. To begin, I had to fill out and sign some sort of contract before they would serve me a drink; what is this? --the mind boggles. I ordered the fajitas, and while not terrible they did little for me. The meat was overcooked and rather dry. The veggies and condiments were OK. The drinks--after I had concluded my contract for purchasing them--were the best bit: nice mojitos and good fresh-squeezed lemonade. The service was OK--typical Warsaw semi-ambivalent. This isn't really a Mexican restaurant, but more a Polish interpretation of what a Mexican restaurant should be. The menu is more akin to what you'd find at a Taco Bell in the U.S. than to what you'd find at a restaurant in Mexico: tacos, burritos, etc. In the final analysis, the name of this place is a propos: mass-produced mexican-like food churned out for the "yo" crowd. More power to them, but I'll not return."
