U Hopfera

|
No quest for the perfect Polish pierogi would be complete without a visit to the U Hopfera restaurant. Purveying fine Polish cuisine since 1876 and mentioned by Boleslaw Prus, one of Poland's most celebrated writers, in the acclaimed novel, Lalka, U Hopfera is a must-visit, whether it be a literary or culinary pilgrimage. A true pierogi heaven, the restaurant takes you past the standard four or five offerings with a mind-boggling 45 different varieties, including goat's cheese, lamb and chocolate; all hand-crafted to a secret recipe and on offer at modest mid-range prices. Certainly not a place you'll regret parting with your zloty. Novelty pierogi-chasers looking for something new should try the patented dyed pierogis, available in the national colours. In two words, Pierogi excellence. |

A great introduction to Polish cuisine - I tried the mixed meat and the mixed cheese pierogi which were both delicious. A lovely cosy atmosphere, too.
