Wedel

There are few things closer to a Pole's heart than chocolate, and Wedel has been wooing customers since way back in 1851. This chocoholics paradise should top any sweet-toothed traveller's list. Lovingly reconstructed after the war, the Wedel 'Pijalnia' is nothing less than a Warsaw institution. As it was, none of the Wedel family survived to see the post 1989 world, but the new owners are proudly endeavouring to uphold the firms traditions. Have they got it right? Judging by the huge popularity of this place, the answer must be a resounding yes. Enjoy!

"I took some American college students to this place....it was excellent...made our trip to Warsaw. A wonderful selection of desserts in the Salon. Highly recommended. We took home a wondeful box of truffles, too. Beats anything in the US."

"Chocolate Paradise that makes Ghiradelli back in the States look like Ringling Bros. Ever since my Grandmother on my mother's side of the family brought some of their cakes from New York's Eastern European shops on her visit to California when my sister and I were very young, I was always looking forward to visiting a place in Poland that specialized in the E. Wedel classics. This is the best way of sampling the E. Wedel Chocolate tradition without actually going to the factory. On my first ever visit to Poland and the store a few weeks ago I enjoyed my glass of Mint Hot Chocolate and Chocolate Mousse. To top it off, I brought and sent home several wafer packages. If only grandmother and grandfather could see me now......Dziekuje bardzo....."
