Czuly Barbarzynca

Czuly Barbarzynca, "The Gentle Barbarian", is the rather marvellous name for this cafe cum bookshop. Plenty of windows and a clean, modern design make it a serene place to while away an hour or so. In the evenings there are often discussions with authors, as well as poetry readings, exhibitions and small concerts. Worth dropping by.

"the free wifi is broken most of the time so you have to make sure to ask them to try to restart the router or something... overall, a real warsaw gem."

"If you're in the area checking out the uni library or the mermaid it's the perfect excuse to visit this sweet bookshop and cafe - unfortunately all the books are in polish though!"

"One of my favourite places in Warsaw. Delicious coffee, great selection of books (some in English too!), and plenty of cosy nooks and corners to escape with a book or your laptop (free wifi!)."

"Seems to be happening a lot in Warsaw now, opening a cafe in a bookshop.'Traffic' and 'Empik' are doing it as well but I think CB has a nicer intimate feel and a relaxing atmosphere. Unfortunately being Warsaw most people don't actually buy any books, they just sit around all day with one coffee and read everything for free. The owners of CB also opened a wonderful open plan bookshop/bar/cafe on the ground floor of a cinema in Praga, it was called 'Bambini di Praga'. Lots of art/cinema/design books and tons of space for kids to run around in and study the kids books without being told off + the added bonus of beer and wine. I thought it was really great and was truly saddened to read on the internet that it closed down a few weeks ago. "
